Kapit capture third crown in Kuching

KAPIT: Despite inadequate basic training facilities, Kapit managed to produce outstanding male and female exponents as evident in the recent Sarawak Closed Pencak Silat Championship 2005 where the division bagged the overall championship title.

The championship, organized by Sarawak Sports Council and Rumpun Silat Sarawak from June 28 through July 3 in Kuching, saw Kapit exponents clinching their third title, Kapit collected 12 gold, six silver and five bronze medals, plus the challenge trophy.

In the Silat Olahraga, Kapit grabbed four golds, three silvers and four bronzes followed by eight golds, three silvers and one bronze in the Silat Seni category.

The gold medallists in the Silat Olahraga were Lawrence Gelau (Kelas C Putera – SUKMA), Dubau Dansan (Kelas C Puteri – SUKMA), Shirley Sandong (Kelas A Puteri – Kebangsaan) and Santa Katelina (Kelas C Puteri Kebangsaan).

In the Silat Seni, the gold medallists were Dubau Dansan (Tunggal Bebas Puteri – SUKMA), Mohd Shahril (Tunggal Bebas Putera – SUKMA) and Mohd Johari (Tunggal Bebas Putera – Kebangsaan).

The pair of Morita Baja and Carol Ajau won the gold medals in the Ganda Bebas Puteri.In the group presentations, the gold medals were won by Dubau Dansan, Mohd Shahril and Lawrence Gelau (Jurus Wajib Rumpun Silat Sarawak), Morita Baja, Alice Bagat and Carol Ajau (Jurus Regu Puteri – Baku) and Kapit`s team of five exponents (Regu Kreatif – Campuran).

Hamzah Saufi (Kelas D Putera – SUKMA), Rofina Barat (Kelas D Puteri – SUKMA) and Tina Minggu (Kelas A Puteri – SUKMA) each walked home with a silver in the Silat Olahraga.

Morita Baja (Tungga Bebas Puteri – Kebangsaan), Dubau Dansan Tunggal Baku Puteri) and Mohd Johari (Tunggal Bakul Putera Kebangsaan) each won a silver in the Silat Seni.Pilang Ajau (Kelas B Putera – SUKMA), Jacquelyn Wong (Kelas A Puteri – SUKMA), Mohd Zaki Abdullah (Kelas A Putera – Kebangsaan) and Saiful Asri (Kelas A Putera – Kebangsaan) each bagged a bronze in the Silat Olahraga.

The Pair of Mohd Zaki Abdullah and Saiful Abang Abdul Gapor won a bronze medal in the Silat Seni.The team was led by their manager Mohd Shukri, who is also chairman of Rumpun Silat Sarawak Wilayah Kapit, Silat Olahraga coach Siti Raibah, Silat Seni coach Mohd Hakimi and teacher-in-charge Fadzil Omar.
